Basic Rig.

To start off the rig create a bone around the hips, this bone will be parent to all the other bones. Call it Root or CoG or whatever you're comfy with.

Build your spine upwards, straight up. No curving. If you need more bones, throw em in.

Put in a neckbone and head bone, make sure they're children of the chest bone. They dont need to be connected if you dont want them to.

Select the stomach bone, create a new bone pointing downwards. The pelvis.

Select the chest and create a shoulder bone.

Create more bones to complete the arm and hand.

Fingerbones! Personally I like to place the bones at the top of the mesh, it makes smartskinning (next section) easier.

Copy/Paste. Name your bones!

Create a new bone with starts and ends at x=0. I usually call it switch, but it doesnt matter. then Ctrl-Drag your shoulder bone onto this bone into the hierarchy.

A copy of your shoulder and arm bones will be created.

Select the switch bone and scale it -100 in "Y". The new shoulder and arm bones should flip correctly over. If not, try X or Z.

Drag the new shoulder hierarchy back over onto the Chest bone.

Assign CPs and rename your bones.

Draw in your leg bones.

Flip them over like you did the arm bones.

That's it! Its not very animatable yet, controlling the rig is coming right up after smartskinning. Delete the switch bone if you like.
