Modeling the hand.

We'll start the hand with the fingers. Create a spline ring arond where the knuckle of the middle finger will be.

Use a 6 spline ring to keep things light.

Top View.
Extrude the ring forward to form the finger. One spline ring for each join and 2 for the end. (This will deform badly! But that's what smartskin is for.)

Shift points to make the finger look better. Shrink the end to round out the fingertip.

Cap it off.

Take the top splines of the fingertip and push them down, try to create a flat surface.

Create a new spline ring in a finger-nail shape.

Extrude it out, shrink it down as it extrudes to form the nail.

Cap off the ends.

And place. Once complete finger! Adjust any points you need to make it look good.

Copy/Paste the finger 3 times and arrange/shrink them to match a hand. Grab the root splines of each finger, lock and hide the rest of the geometry.

Create a new spline ring surrounding the finger rings. On the sides I circles a couple splines, I'm just placing a hook there to try and reduce the mesh a bit.

Lay down some splines between the fingers with 2 points.

Stitch them all together. There will be a lot of 5 point patches, fill them later.

Grab all the points except for the finger rings and pull it back towards the wrist.

Now select the outer ring (dont get those inner points or you'll have a mess) and extrude it to form the hand.

Delete extra geometry and stitch things together using hooks. 5-pt patch any holes in the knuckles.

Delete the point circled, we're gonna use the hole to create the thumb.

Create a ring to match the number of CPs you're gonna attach to.

Stitch them together, then create another new ring, with fewer points.

Stitch that together, use hooks to fill in holes.

Extrude the ring out to form a thumb.

Shift points around the hand to make it look nicer. Padded palms, etc. Make sure CPs arent creasing too badly.

Select the rings on the end of the arm and the beginning of the hand, hide everything else.

Stitch them together, then adjust.

Til it looks good.
