puZh Plugin Quick Info

Plugin for Hash Animation:Master V9.0 or higher.
Moves selected CPs along their normals. This means, you can grow objects/faces/anything fatter or make it thinner with it.
Version 2.0 adds the ability to add keyframes in animations or poses/relationships. 2.0 will only work with recent 10.5 Versions and higher.
You can order the plugin below. Please mail (mbricman@kci-group.com) me a link to your work if you use it!

Use it for:
of course you can use puZh for a lot of other things since you can also just partially modify your model and combine it with the standard A:M toolset or any other plugin.

PuZh is available for $10 through DigitalCandle (see bottom of this page).

Detailed Information

The only parameter puZh has is the Distance. Its given in centimeters and defaults to 1cm. Enter a negative value if you want to make your object thinner, positive values make it thicker.

puZh moves all CPs in your selection along the normal calculated using the first patch that can be found that uses the CP.
This means: puZh is not good for making cubes fatter. Nor any object or part of an object that has sharp edged appearance, UNLESS you are using low magnitude values to get the sharp effect.
This is because only the first patch will be used for normal calculation. One edge of a Cube has 3 associated patches, that would influence the correct movement vector. [support for edged objects will probably be added if i get requests for it]
puZh also does not take gamma values into account in the calculating of the normals. Gamma values will be preserved though in the process.

The puZh process is not generally reversible, since the patch normals might change when you puZh CPs.

puZh is currently only a modeling (NOT animation) tool. It does not create keyframes in actions. But we are working on a generic solution to locally "morph" previously stored CP position data into the current CP position data (Project [Morphine]). This will make local pushes with falloff etc. possible. The next version of puZh will also be able to just create keyframes for the puZhed CPs.

TIP: I think its best in relationships/poses to add a key at frame 0.

TIP: you can also add keyframes when in modeling mode and this will look fine while working, but this information will get lest when saving/reloading your file! So in model mode i only recommend using the "Modify Model" method.

Usage

Take care, that the normals of your object are all facing "outwards" (you can display the normals in A:M by pressing [SHIFT]-[1]). If some normals are pointing in the wrong direction, go in patch selection mode, select the offending patches and the right-click and select "flip normals".

Select the CPs you want to puZh.

Right - click on them, select "Plugins", then "Wizards", then "puZh...".

Enter the desired distance value and hit OK.

Be careful with thin parts (like lips, eyelids, etc.). They get easily turned inside-out when puZh is applied with negative Distance value (due to obvious reasons).

Examples

puZh was applied with the values 0.2, 0.4, 1.0, -0.2, -0.4. each value was applied to the original model, the rendered results of each model were added to an animation in Adobe ImageReady.
In the next puZh (or with Morphine) you will be able to create animations like this directly in A:M in seconds (though its not very healthy, you could also use speed instead of [Morphine].).

The glowing body shield is a puZhed copy of the body parts there.

The head was copied, one copy puZhed outwards, the other's normals flipped, then the openings were closed with splines. This creates a nice hollow glass sculpture.
